Another reminder of gradual change

As I walked across my apartment complex this morning I saw slivers of brilliant pink showing through green pods. Each expanding petal was straining against its prison of sepals like a baby chick straining against its shell. The rhododendrons are blossoming!

I love the thought of changing gradually throughout the summer along with this plant: come fall both I and the plant will look radically different, and although each day’s change may not be as noticeable as today’s was, all it takes is a little faith to know that today is an important part of that change.

We will both be pollinated, and our roots will quiver with the joy of bearing fru…

Wait, that one doesn’t work.
