What I didn’t eat at work today

This month’s “First Friday” event at work was the first in the new office, and doubled as a celebration for a manager’s thirtieth anniversary with the firm, so there were more sweet treats than there will be on average. God, I hope there were more sweet treats than there will be on average.

I felt a more satisfaction at resisting the table full of gustatory event horizons than I did last time, and less existential sadness. But still there was melancholy: that such poison is so readily available; that others are able to indulge in such a seemingly carefree fashion; and that it calls to me so powerfully.

But I didn’t eat a bite. And that’s something to be proud of.
