Excellent Dumpling

Grace’s former classmate Alaina arranged a get-together at Excellent Dumpling because she and her husband Mark are about to move to North Carolina. There were seven of us, which is a very good number: we fit around one table, but there were enough mouths to warrant a big order that covered a broad spectrum of dim sum and entrees.

We started with lots of scallion pancakes, fried pork dumplings, steamed shao lan pau and steamed vegetable dumplings. Then we moved on to eggplant with garlic sauce beef chow fun, baby bok choi, vegetable fried rice, sizzling chicken chow fun and sizzling crispy duck with eggplant.

As always, the service at Excellent Dumpling was blindingly fast. As aways, that had its disadvantage: the “hurry up and get out so we can clear the table” vibe was palpable. But hey, it’s all part of the charm that comes with the best, and cheapest, Chinese food that I know of.
