The STARR “X”

I always wanted one of these things, especially at camp. There’s something terribly gratifying about walking over to the wall, sticking a long-necked Pepsi bottle or a beer bottle into the metal aperture, and giving the bottle a gentle downward tug to pop the cap.

Well, I finally saw them for sale when I was at Atlantic Brewing Company in July, so of course I bought one. I brought it with me to camp yesterday, but I left it sitting on the table when we locked up. This was partly because we were late leaving camp and we had to start the climb up Giant as soon as possible, but mainly because I like the idea of mounting the opener on the wall after I’ve reached my target weight.

In a few months I’ll be back at camp, and I’ll weigh a good fifteen pounds less than I do now. I’ll pick the right spot on the wall, and I’ll put that opener up, and I’ll pop the cap on a bottle of Tröegs Hopback Amber or Dogfish Head 90 or Dogfish Head World Wide Stout or who knows what. And the beer I drink will be all the more enjoyable for it.
